Honoring Harris County Deputy Sheriff Richard Custer - March 2006 |
Left to right - On February 5, 2006, at approximately 5:15 p.m. Deputy Custer while handling another matter on his patrol beat noticed vehicle go by him where the driver wasn’t wearing his seat belt, but it was the expression on the driver’s face when he saw Deputy Custer walking toward the car that put Deputy Custer on high alert. One person exited the vehicle and attempted to enter a residence carrying a plastic bag and Deputy Custer commanded him to stop, but the subject continued to the door and gave someone inside the bag, Deputy Custer detained the individual and they went to the door and recovered the bag and removed all occupants from the house. The bag that was retrieved contained $ 44,200.00 in cash and money orders. Upon arrival of back-up a consent search of the house was conducted and an additional $ 8,275.00 in cash was recovered along with plastic wrappings with marijuana residue and even more ready for use plastic wrappings, indicating a large scale marijuana distribution operation. The total recovered was $ 52,400.00 and the money is now in the drug money seizure proceedings. Congratulations to Deputy Custer for going the extra mile and being super alert, showing bravery by confronting a number of people by himself and following up to make sure the evidence was secured. |
