Honoring Security Officer Jaime Ochoa - March 2010 |
Left to right - On January 28, 2010 in response to a call about an individual who had taken the elevator to the roof of the Ben Taub Garage, 9 stories high, indicating he was going to commit suicide, Officer Jaime Ochoa, a 15 year veteran of the Harris County Hospital Security Department, responded to the roof of the garage. Seeing the individual sitting on the railing he communicated with the individual in an attempt to get him away from the edge of the roof. The individual indicated he did not want assistance and in a farewell gesture pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head and started to lean backwards over the edge. Officer Ochoa grabbed the individual preventing him from falling, and made sure the individual was assisted by medical personnel. This act of bravery, without regard for his personal safety saved this individual's life. |
