Officer of the Year 2011 - HCSO Sergeant M. Ellison - Decmeber 2011 |
On Thursday August 4, 2011 at approximately 9:10 am, Sergeant Ellison confronted two armed suspects robbing the Wells Fargo Bank, located in the Randall’s grocery store, at 5800 New Territory Blvd. Sergeant Ellison was forced into a gunfight with the suspects and was struck twice while the suspects fled the location. Sergeant Ellison, though wounded, continued to guard against the return of the gun men and kept the patrons secure by placing himself between them and the exit. There is no doubt that these suspects had a total disregard for human life and would kill anyone who got in their way. Once Sergeant Ellison determined that the scene was secure it was only then that he asked for an ambulance for his gunshot wounds. Sergeant Ellison’s heroic actions are praised in an email sent to the Sheriff by the parents of a bank employee. “We would like to thank Officer Mike Ellison for saving the life of our daughter who is a teller at the New Territory Wells Fargo Bank, which was robbed on Thursday, August 4, 2011. If it wasn’t for Officer Ellison who knows what would have happened to our daughter and all the people there at the time of the robbery…he was God sent to protect them and we want to let him know he is our Hero. May God Bless him and his family. Thanks God he is doing well from our family we thank Officer Ellison from the bottom of our hearts.” |
