Meeting Minutes - February 16, 2009
Chairman Tom Hamilton, presiding,
PRESENT: Chris Dempster, Ann Marie Acree, Mike Crocker, Mike Ma= son, Bruce Rodriguez, Ralph Burdett, John Kahn, Tim Manning, Randy Simpson, Greg Autry, Darrin Dillon, Jay Helms, David Cribbs, Richard Hill, Charlie Gries, Deed Vest, Roger Piper
Tom Hamilton has been get= ting email Blasts from Crime Stoppers and asked if anyone else has been getting = the same thing. Many other board members have been also. It se= ems as though they know the situation we are in with the Renaissance Hotel, the lu= nch prices and our speakers.
Everyone went around the = room and introduced themselves and what committee they represented.
Tom introduced the guest = we had today with the organization; ̶= 0;Assist the Officer”.
This is a non-profit orga= nization that is often compared to the 100 Club.&nb= sp; However, this organization deals with helping officers who are injur= ed on the job with getting their family in from out of town, help with hotel accommodations, meals, events to raise money, wheel chairs, lifts, etc. They are always looking for donations and recruits of new people to assist them = in there efforts. They also have= a chapter in Dallas. They are t= rying to break into the corporate world and this is why they wanted to introduce themselves to us today. If we= can work together they would be billing to assist us with the golf tournament.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> They thanked everyone for their ti= me and left the meeting.
Tom asked after their dep= arture if the chapter would be willing to adopt “Assist the Officer” organization as a charity for donation.&nb= sp; Mike Crocker made a motion to adopt A.T.O. and everyone was in favor. Motion passed.
Member Survey results are in and 126 members participated compa= red to 2008 where only 35 members participated. 82 members want to move the chapter lunches to save money but still want to maintain quality and free parking.<= /p>
We were booked at the Ren= aissance for 1/09 at $30.00/meal, 2/09 the Renaissance demanded $32.00/meal so we confirmed the Renaissance again for February and March. We have 80 confirmed and expect mo= re for 2/09, which is up from last year. However we do need to find another lunch venue that is cost effectiv= e, complimentary parking with quality food.&n= bsp; Richard Hill and Ralph Burdett volunteered his time to find another venue for April and future luncheons.
There were a number of re= sponders to the Membership Survey who requested someone contact them for some reason= or the other and Tom Hamilton has contacted each and every one of them.
Pam Duncan with Space Cen= ter Houston offered to host the 10/09 luncheon and offer a complimentary tour of the facility. We will need to= be sure this lunch does not conflict with the golf tournament already scheduled for 10/19. Chris Dempster mad= e a motion that we decide on a date that does not conflict with the golf tourna= ment and all was in favor. The Cha= pter meeting for October will be pushed back on week for the Space Center meetin= g.
Speakers-Tom reviewed the speakers scheduled from February thro= ugh June 2009. Tim Manning mentio= ned that he had the Director of Federal Aviation Association for either July/Au= gust or the Director of Homeland Security for either August/September.
Roger Piper recommended w= e post the speakers to the web site and everyone agreed
Awards
Houston won Web Site of t= he Year which means $150.00 to the chapter. Additionally, due to the membership growth experienced in 2008, the chapter will receive a $250.00 award for that and one more free registratio= n for the National conference bringing the chapter’s total to 2 free registrations.
The Chapter also won Hono= rable Mention for Newsletter of the Year.

We need to decide how we = are going to give away the free entries. Mike Crocker mentioned that it needs to be non transferable and we n= eed to let national know who the winners are.&= nbsp; Tom Hamilton suggested that we give away one registration to any ASIS member assigned to the Chapter and one registration to any dues paying Chap= ter member. All agreed.

Golf Tournament - Darrin Dillon & Chris Dempster. Co-Chairs=
The golf committee contac= ted 15 golf courses for cost proposals. After reviewing all proposals it was decided that due to cost the decision points to Willow Creek as the site for 2009. Most members want to keep the tournament on Monday’s and tee times in the mornings. We want to be sold out 5 weeks bef= ore the start date. We all need to as= k for donations, prizes and give aways. Tom asked everyone to turn every screw to see what we can get.
Paul Rux has already land= ed $12,000.00 worth of sponsors already! Way to go Paul.
Seminar - Randy Simpson – June 3, 2009

We held it there a couple of years ago and it was very successful.
Speakers for Seminar-Randy stated if anyone has any suggestions= as to whom we can get as speakers to let him know. There must be 2 hours on ethics, it’s mandatory. Chris Dempster’s mothers name came up again. Chris has already talked to his mo= ther. She said to just let her know the details and she will do the ethics class for us.
Web Site – Roger Piper - Sent out the policy notice but g= ot no feedback. One thing that is happening is that all emails are kept indefinitely. He wanted to make a suggestion tha= t we archive all emails after 18 months. He will post the policy on the web site so everyone can read it. We can discuss this again at the n= ext board meeting.
Web Site Sponsorships – Going great, most renewals are renewing. He has 2 big sponso= rs that have just committed and a few other sizable sponsors on the line. He should know something soon. If we get all that he is thinking = we are going to get, we will have gained $8200-$8800.00.

Mike Mallon sent out lett= ers of recommendation for Officer of the = Month. For the first time, we do not have= a nomination for Officer of the Month. Mike feelings are such that instead of digging for a candidate and getting one that may not be to the standard, that we not recognize one. Everyone on the board agreed.
Who is eligible for a nom= ination of Officer of the Quarter? An= yone who is in the fields of: EMT, Fire, Police (county/city) and contract Secur= ity Officers.
CPP Review – David Cribbs
June 2009 we will have a = weekly review at 3 hours each week
August 2009 we will have = a weekly PSP review at 2 hours each week
We will try to get speake= rs but we must stay on schedule. He = will get with Bruce to get it published.
Mike Mason sent out and posted a new list of security opportunities.
Greg Autry developed a form letter to send out to all new membe= rs as a welcome.
Deed Vest stated that Boeing is a new ASIS Member. He wants to reach out to other cha= pters.
Jay Helms is the new Oil & Gas Committee Chair discussed a = list of things he wants to do with this committee.
The next board meeting wi= ll be in March. Tom will send out date= s for us to choose from.
