HOUSTON CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES

2/18/09

The luncheon meeting was held at the Renaissance Hotel= with Chapter President Tom Hamilton presiding. 100 total members and guests attended.

The lunch began at 11:47AM with a welcome to all from = Tom Hamilton, Chapter Chairman 2009.

Butch Roberson, Chapter Chaplain, gave the innovation = and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Tom invited all guests around the room to stand up and introduce themselves.

Tom recognized a few people for their dedication and efforts: They are:

Paul Rux for his outstanding efforts with the Golf Com= mittee in 2008 & so far for 2009

Mike Crocker, Legislative Affairs representative for 2= 008 & 2009

Kevin Galloway, 2008 Chapter Secretary

Jay Helms, Oil & Gas Committee Chairmen

Announcements by Tom Hamilton:

However, we will be holding the March luncheon here and the new venue will be announced sometime in the near future.
Tom will expound on when we w= ill draw for those free registrations at a later meeting.
“Assist the Officers” as a new charity. They have also volunteered to= help us with the golf tournament.

Chris Dempster-Treasurer

He gave a brief overview o= f the Houston Chapter finances. Det= ails were placed on each table for review. The chapter is doing very well financially.

Roger Piper-Web Site

He posted the new policy o= n the web site and he would really like feedback from the membership. After all feedback has been review= ed the new policy will be put in place.

If anyone/members have any information they want him to put on the web site, please contact him.

Also, sponsorships are up = but there is some availability left so if anyone wants to sponsor the web site, again contact Roger Piper.

Tom introduced our speaker= for the lunch, Adrian Garcia, Sherriff.

Adrian recognized a few mem= bers of his office and asked them to stand up and be recognized.<= /b>

Adrian wanted to focus his = talk today on opportunities for Houston. He wants the sheriff’s office to have the reputation of professionalism to reflect the professionals that make up the department. He wants to challenge the departme= nt to speak globally to fight against terrorism of all sorts. If you fight crime then you take o= ut crime. Adrian wants to do everything possible to get the various law enforcement territorial walls down. We (counties & city= ) have to work together. We have to share information. What are we doing today to be bett= er tomorrow? We must get back to= the basics and reallocate personnel. Here are just a few of the opportunities h= e is working on now.

We need to be in the driver’s seat on the different task forces we belong to
Manage the county jail better (the second largest county jail in America R= 11; 11,000 inmates)
Human intelligence tool to help keep the community safe
Share dispatch center information
Immigration Control & Enforcement
Human Trafficking
Share crime analysis
Gangs-track trends and expand operations and share information with area enforceme= nt organizations. Gangs are= not the same as they were years ago. Gang Crimes are more organized. They = are disproportionately responsible for a large portion of what we see each= and everyday on the news. 50% of all crimes are gang related.

Last but not least, if anyone knows anyone who is looking for a career, call the sheriffs department. They are hiring for many position.

Tom Hamilton presented Adrian Garcia with a plaque of = appreciation.

Darrin Dillon-Golf Tournament Co-chair

It will be October 19^th at Willow Creek again. After looking at propo= sals from 15 different courses Willow Creek offered the most cost effective pack= age. We need goodie bag items, give always and things for both live and silent auctions.

Guest, Major Robert Doguim, Homeland Security- Harris = County Sheriff’s Department, drew the winning raffle ticket and Matt Silcox = won a $50.00 American Express gift certificate courtesy of Terrace Security.

Chris Dempster asked by a show of hands that did not get an invoice for membership. He will send out invoices again.

With no other business, Tom adjourned the meeting.
