ASIS-HOUSTON CHAPTER MINUTES

The luncheon meeting was held at the Renaissance Hotel with Chapter Secretary Greg H. Walker, Esq., CPP, ARM presiding.   Sixty-Six (66) members and Five (5) guests attended.

Welcome, Introduction of Guests and New Members

 

COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES:

 

Membership Committee: Chairperson Kevin Galloway asked visitors to rise and introduce themselves.

 

Treasurer’s Report:       Chapter Treasurer Tom Norman, CPP, PSP was unable to attend due to illness, but sent a Financial Report which was distributed noting that the Chapter presently had a total of $ 29,952.40 when you combined the checking account and savings account.

 

Golf Committee:   Randy Simpson announced that the had solidified this year’s sponsors helping to ensure another successful Golf Tournament for scholarships.

 

Public Safety Liason Committee:    Chairperson Greg H. Walker, Esq., CPP, ARM presented our March Officer of the Month Award to Officer Edward L. Wisenbaler of the Houston Police Department.   Officer Wisenbaler designed the HPD database known as the “Gang Tracker” which is linked into HPD’s other databases, including the booking database, offense report system, etc.   Officer Wisenbaler is recognized nationwide as the architect of one of the nation’s finest gang databases.

 

Certifications Committee:   Committee Member Darren Dillion noted that classes would be beginning for all three (3) of the ASIS certifications in the next few weeks.

 

Legislative Affairs & Texas Board of Private Security Liaison Committee:   Chairperson Bob Casino announced that the legislature in Austin is moving forward with legislation and the TBPS had instituted several new rules, but that he would leave further comment to Mr. Larry Shimick of the TBPS.

 

Social Events Committee:   Committee Chairperson and Chapter Vice-Chairman Andrea Laughlin announced that a wine tasting would be held on Thursday evening, March 29th.

 

TPSB Certification of Luncheons For Continuing Education Credit Committee:    Chairperson Kevin Galloway announced that the TPSB had granted one hour credit for the monthly meetings based upon the quality of the education delivered by our luncheon speakers.

 

Placement Committee:  Chairperson Mike Mason announced that everyone should check the website for the posting of a new position to be filled in the Greater Houston Area.

 

Newsletter Committee:   Chairperson Tom Hamilton presented a scholarship check to the North Harris College Law Enforcement Training Academy on behalf of the Chapter from sponsorship donations for the newsletter.

 

SPEAKER:   

 

Mr. Cliff Grumbles, Manager of the Texas Board of Private Security was unable to make it to Houston due to legislative matters taking precedent.   His Deputy Manager, Mr. Larry Shimick, graciously appeared on short notice and presented a Powerpoint presentation on recent and upcoming rules and regulations changes by the Board, along with an update on proposed bills making it through the Texas Legislature.

 

The Powerpoint presentation is to be posted on the Chapter Website.

 

APRIL 18TH  LUNCHEON:

 

The next luncheon will be April 18th and the Speaker will be Mr. Elwood “Woody” Norris, speaking on Directed Sound Technologies in Security Applications.
