February 1, 2002, new Commission Rule 426.15 ~ Security Consultants went into effect, now requiring all security consultants in the State of Texas to provide proof of public liability insurance; and take the Manager’s Exam in order to renew their license.  The Exam consists of a two hundred-question examination covering the Contents of Chapter 1702 ~ Texas Occupations Code and The TCPS Commission Rules.  Exam Materials are located on the TCPS Website, or a hard copy is purchased from the Commission.

If one holds an active Manager’s Registration with a Class A., Class B, Class C or a Letter of Authority, you are not required to test again.

In accordance with Commission Rule 426.15 ~ Security Consultants, any consultant renewal received after January 1, 2003 will be denied, if the licensee has not yet passed the Manager’s Exam. When one is prepared to take the Manager’s Exam, a test notification form is requested from the Commission. This Form is filled-out and mailed to the Commission. A written notification of your date, time and location is mailed to your home address.  Usually, a test location is at the nearest Commission Office to you.  Those offices are located in the cities of Austin, Arlington, San Antonio and Houston.

There is no testing fee for the 1st Exam.  There is a $100.00 dollar re-examination fee.  If any security consultant has any questions, please contact the License Division of the Texas Commission on Private Security at (512) 463-5545.
